Listen to the podcast:

Proverbs 4:20-22 (WEB)

22  My son, attend to my words. Turn your ear to my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from your eyes. Keep them in the center of your heart.  22 For they are life to those who find them, and health to their whole body.

Matthew 7:7-8 (WEB)

7 “Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. 8 For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened.

Finding is reserved for those who seek, for those who look. You have to believe it’s there before you look. You have to look before you find.

What else does God’s Word say about finding?

John 8
31 Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples. 32 You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

Who will know the truth? Those who remain in his Word.

John 14:21

“One who has my commandments, and keeps them, that person is one who loves me. One who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will reveal myself to him.”

We read the Word to know and obey the truth. That must be your heart if we want to know the find his Word.

1 Corinthians 3:1-2

1 Brothers, I couldn’t speak to you as to spiritual, but as to fleshly, as to babies in Christ. 2 I fed you with milk, not with meat; for you weren’t yet ready. Indeed, you aren’t ready even now.

You see the believers in Corinth had heard some of the Word of God but were not ready for more because the word they heard they have yet to put into practice. We want more truth but what are we doing with the truth we know?

If you want to be a finder, you have to be a seeker and you have to want to know the truth so that you do what it says. So that you can make it your truth.

We are not looking to the Word to prove ourselves right. No, we are looking to the Word to continually be reaffirmed in the area we are right and corrected in the areas we still need growth in. His Word is the Final Authority!

Now let’s go back and read what to do once we find the Word.

Proverbs 4:20-22 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)

20 My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. 22 For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh.

Much of our Christan life are heart issues. Is our heart right when we read the Word. Is our intent to know God and do what he says or is it to impress people by what we know.

God’s Word is God’s Word to us. He’s speaking to us and teaching us what to think, believe, do, act and how to live. Jesus is Lord so will we obey him? If we will, we will see that the treasures of his Word are easier to find because he is revealing himself to us. Amen.

Blessings in Christ,

Tim Dumas
